How to use SOFT ETHER VPN for GAMING (with pictures) - WORKING! in 2k16
Hello. Who the fkcu does like gaming ? Haha. Welcome to the club. So i think you might have gaming clients blocked on your college proxy server ? Alas. No big issue. Here is a way to bypass your college proxy by using a VPN ( virtual private network ) , which basically makes you part of a different country, and you are no longer a part of your college network. That allows you to connect to your gaming client with no issues, and more than that, it even lets you access contents like NETFLIX and BBC news, and websites which probably aren't allowed in your country. Well go no further. A VPN lets you access it all, based on the VPN server you connect yourself to. Its completely free. All you have to do is select a VPN server closest to your home location with a low ping and low no. of current users ( known as "sessions" in the SOFT ETHER VPN client ). Let me show you how it works !

STEPS TO USE SOFT ETHER VPN FOR PLAYING DOTA 2 THROUGH A PROXY -
1. Download SoftEther VPN client.
Pay some attention here. There are two versions of SoftEther VPN client available. One is the default SoftEther VPN client and the other one is - SoftEther VPN client with VPN Relay Gates. This second one is the one you should be downloading. VPN Relay gates are the pre-included VPN servers in the SoftEther VPN client. If you down just the SoftEther VPN client ( without the VPN Relay Gates ) , you would have to enter the IP address of the far-away VPN server, the port on which it will operate, the VPN username, and all that would just result in a mess and stop you from using this software.
So, what you have to do is, download the "SoftEther VPN with VPN Relay Gates" from the link below.

2. Install it and set it up.
Just to help you out, here are a few pics of how the installation process ( up till the final setup of the entire software )
Now once you have installed it, open the software. During the first time you open the software, SoftEther will create something called a "Virtual Adapter". Dont worry. It will be done automatically. IF NOT, then do it manually by clicking the tab "Virtual Adapter" and then select "New Virtual Adapter" and just click ok. It doesn't matter what the name of the Virtual Adapter is.
3. Setting up your connection.
NOW the fun part begins. Just double-click on "VPN Gate Public VPN Relay Servers". Here, the first thing you have to do is click on "Proxy Settings" present on the bottom left corner of this page and set up the details as per your college proxy. Next, once you are done setting up your proxy, click on "Refresh List" present at the top-right in the same window. Thirdly,www.softether.org arrange all the VPN Servers area-wise by just clicking on the "Regions" tab. The picture for all these sub-steps is just below.
Now, you are all good to go !
Just double-click on any VPN Server with a high connection speed ( Don't worry about the ping , its mainly the connection speed that matters - as per my experience of using this software for more than a year ) . So once you double-click a VPN Server, you will be given a dialogue box like below. Just select "Use TCP Protocol" and click OK.
If the Server is up and working, you will be able to connect to it and you will get a feedbacklike this.
Hint : FOR GAMING MATTERS, how fast the VPN Server gets connected determines how much ping you will get in the game ;) BUT ONE MORE PIECE OF ADVICE. Check out those VPN servers which are present at the bottom most of the list with very high pings like 343,1117, 1043 ( just to say a few high pings ) or those servers with NULL ping, because THESE SERVERS WORK WONDERS TOO, though sometimes only. But still worth a try when you have loads of time.
So, For DOTA 2, just get connected with a VPN Server of your choice from the list and check out the various pings you are getting in different DOTA 2 Regions.
I play dotA all day ( actually all night :P hehe ) and with my college's internet, i can get pings around 180ms in Japan if i connect through a JAPAN VPN SERVER ( in SoftEther VPN client ofcourse ), 193-201ms in Europe West/ Europe East if i connect through a UNITED KINGDOM VPN SERVER, and around 94ms in Dubai if i connect through a UNITED ARAB EMIRATES VPN SERVER, and around 190ms in South East Asia if i connect through a SINGAPORE VPN SERVER.
